Linux is a wonderful operating system that is put together like the old fashioned Unix, only it's for modern computers. I use it and I wish more people would use it. The core of Linux is what's called the kernel, it handles all the basic processing. This tutorial is using Ubuntu Linux. It is not about installing. To do this tutorial, you will need it. At ubuntu.com you can download and install as it has the files and it has an installation guide, even though the installation is pretty straightforward, until you get to the partitioning section. I will give a brief explanation: A partition is a section of hard disk space, usually set aside for a single operating system. If you are using Windows for instance, you might want to keep it and all your files on your computer, without buying another hard drive. You just got to tell the installation program, when you get to the right spot, that you want to make a partition in your disk space for Linux, without erasing the whole disk. Usually you have to resize your Windows partition, to make room for Linux, and that might involve cleaning up Windows. I have not written the tutorial for using Ubuntu Linux yet. Check back often. |
